Quartz grains extracted from sediment samples collected inwards the valleys of the rivers Nerbioi (in Bizkaia), Deba together with Oiartzun (both inwards Gipuzkoa), were dated using 2 complementary methods: Luminescence (OSL) together with Electron Spin Resonance (ESR).
With the results obtained, which yield ages of betwixt 140,000 together with 400,000 years for the fluvial terraces situated betwixt 10 together with 25 meters inwards a higher house the electrical flow channel, it has been possible to found a preliminary chronostratigraphic framework for the Quaternary fluvial deposits of these Cantabrian valleys.
The dating work, performed at laboratories of the CENIEH together with the University of Sheffield, has made it possible to infer that the fluvial development of the zone has been controlled past times climate, amongst the alternation of relatively humid together with arid climatic cycles which would accept triggered erosive (fluvial incision) or agradational (fluvial deposition) processes over time.
